This position corresponds to the tasks to be carried out by INRIA
within the European project IST-CARETAKER a new multi-site project (8
partners in 7 countries). The goal of the project consists of
extracting knowledge about activities in urban areas obtained by audio
and video sensors. INRIA's work is to extract abstract information
from audio/video signal relevant to town planners, police and services
of local community. The context of the work concerns analysis and
interpretation of audio and video data. More precisely, the objective
is to filter the data in order to obtain information pertinent to the
end-users.

The work is divided in two parts. The first is to ensure the
consistency of audio/video information coming from all the CATETAKER
partners. This will leverage the scenario model learning process. The
second part is concerned with the design of learning algorithms for
the events selected by CARETAKER users.
