Topic: Mathematical Understanding of the Left Ventricle Remodeling after
Myocardial Infarction using CT & MR Images
Acute myocardial infarction, the term often describe by heart attack, is
a disease state that occurs when the blood supply to a part of the heart
is interrupted. The resulting ischemia or oxygen shortage causes damage
and potential death of heart tissue. The aim of this project is to
understand the long term natural remodeling process of the LV towards
compensating the inability of dead-tissues to contract. To this end, the
patient will be imaged regularly using non-invasive means, and
information on the the heart cycle (volume,...) will be extracted. The
aim of the post-doc is to determine a time series process which is able
to explain the long term behavior of the LV in particular as far as the
ability to contract is concerned in relation with the dead tissues.
Ecole Centrale is one of the top three engineering schools in France
(Grandes Ecoles).
As a postdoc in Ecole Centrale, the candidate is expected to participate
in PhD guidance, while there will be several opportunities to work in
numerous project of medical image analysis and computer vision and
collaborate with the leading academic and industrial institutions in
Europe. Technical requirements: PhD in computer science (graduation
before 15/12/2006) or allied field , preferably with a specialization in
medical imaging, registration, segmentation, etc. - Excellent
mathematical and analytical abilities - Good programming skills in C,
C++, Matlab
DEADLINE for application: March 01, 2007
Duration & Salary: 12 months (with possible renewal), starting
01/09/2007 (or later), 30-40,000EY
Potential candidates please contact: Prof. Nikos Paragios
