Research Fellow /Officer - Computer Vision & Robotics
School of Engineering, Cranfield University, UK

£27,665 - £30,835 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience)

We are seeking a suitably qualified Researcher to work on a computer
vision project in the Applied Mathematics and Computing Group in the
School of Engineering. The group has a strong record in applied
research in the academic and industrial sectors including computer
vision and image processing.

Your research and development activity will be related to target
recognition aspects of a major robotics and computer vision project.
This project will involve the use of object recognition techniques
applied to mobile robotics in an urban environment. Additional work
will also be based on UAV aerial footage analysis. The project
involves several industry partners in the UK. You will form part of
dynamic, multi-discipline, cross-organisational team developing and
demonstrating a real working system in a real environment scenario.
Experience with team-based system development and in large scale
system integration will be an advantage.

You will have a strong background in image processing, image analysis,
computer vision, or a related field of computer science or computer
engineering. Ideally you will have a specific interest and experience
in object recognition. You will possess a good first degree in
computer science, artificial intelligence or a related subject and a
PhD or strong experience in a relevant topic. Candidates without a PhD
will also be considered, postgraduate experience at MSc level is
desirable. Prior experience is essential in the following:

• Programming (C, C++)
• Computer Vision, image Processing or Image Analysis Techniques

Additional robotics experience is desirable but not essential. This
appointment will commence in August/September 2007, for a fixed term
of 12 months in the first instance. An extension of this initial term
will be possible depending upon performance.
