POSTDOCTORAL AND PHD STUDENT POSITIONS IN 3D TECHNOLOGIES

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Computer Engineering and Electronics and Electrical Engineering
Departments of Bilkent University (www.bilkent.edu.tr) are looking
for two Postdoctoral Researchers to strengthen their 3D graphics
and 3D video research. The researchers will be a member of the
European FP7 3DPHONE project team, whose role is to develop
techniques and solutions for bringing 3D computer graphics and
3D video on mobile platforms. The team:

* Coordinates the European FP6 3DTV (www.3dtv-research.org) and FP7
  3DPHONE projects.
* Develops new 3D graphics and 3D video solutions to address
  next-generation mobile device requirements.
* Looks for innovative applications of 3D graphics and 3D video i
  on mobile devices.

 The PostDoctoral Researchers will participate in these efforts
related to the 3D area. The salary is about 2000 to 2400 Euro/month,
for a duration of 3 years (February 2008-January 2011).  Ph.D. students
are also being sought in these areas.

1.	POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER IN COMPUTER SCIENCE / ENGINEERING
The Postdoctoral Researcher in Computer Engineering Department will
participate in these efforts related to the 3D Graphics area. The
position requires good knowledge of fundamental graphics algorithms,
graphics hardware accelerators, 3D user interfaces, game engines, and
state of the art in these areas. These areas are of particular interest:

* 3D mobile graphics architectures
* 3D UI design and implementation
* 3D compression, bandwidth/primitive reduction, level-of-detail techniques
* 3D visualization
* Perceptually-based rendering

Requirements: A strong background in computer graphics with a very good
knowledge of fundamental graphics algorithms and graphics hardware
accelerators. A PhD Degree related to computer graphics area.

Competencies: A demonstrated ability to do high-quality graphics research,
hardware accelerators, software architecture design, commonly used
programming languages (C/C++, Java, etc.), software design methods and
tools, embedded operating systems. Practical software development
experience e.g. with Symbian platform or TI OMAP platform would be
beneficial.

To Apply:

Applicants should submit a statement of research interests and goals,
curriculum vitae, and the names of three or more references to Tolga
Capin at tcapin at cs.bilkent.edu.tr. Search will continue until the

multi-view video research. In particular, the research is on developing
multi-view video codecs for mobile devices. Supervision of graduate
students within the group is among the duties. An experience in following
resarch topics is desirable:
* Various multi-view video coding algorithms
* Software environements for mobile devices
* Video streaming protocols and algorithms
* Current multi-video codec standardization activities

Requirements: A strong background in signal processing, with empahsis on
video research; a PhD degree with a dissertation topic in a related research
area.

Competencies: A demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality video research,

especially on video codecs and video streaming. Fluency in commonly used
programming languages (C/C++, Java, etc.) in Linux environments is a must;
familiaritiy with software design methods and tools together with embedded
operating systems is a plus. Practical software development experience e.g.
with Symbian platform or TI OMAP platform would be beneficial.

To Apply:
Applicants should submit a statement of research interests and goals,
curriculum vitae, and the names of three or more references to Levent
Onural at onural at bilkent.edu.tr. Search will continue until the positions
