The Brazilian Symposium on Computer Graphics and Image Processing,
SIBGRAPI 2008, will be held on October 12-15, 2008, in Campo Grande,
Mato Grosso do Sul state. Campo Grande is well known for its
ecotourism and home of the Brazilian Pantanal.

SIBGRAPI is the most important Brazilian meeting in Computer
Graphics, Image Processing, and Computer Vision. Started in 1988 with the
sponsorship of the Brazilian Computer Society, this will be its 21th
edition. IEEE CS Press has published the proceedings of SIBGRAPI since
1997. All full papers are blindly reviewed by three experts in the topic
of the work and the acceptance rate is about 30% of the submitted papers.

We have the pleasure to announce the following invited speakers:

** Dr. Jos Stam
Senior scientist at Autodesk Inc. Stam's research spans several areas
of computer graphics: natural phenomena, physics-based simulation,
rendering and
surface modeling, specially subdivision surfaces. He has published papers in
all of these areas in journals and at conferences, most notably at the
annual SIGGRAPH
conference. In 2005 Stam was awarded one of the most prestigeous
awards in computer
graphics: the SIGGRAPH Computer Graphics Achievement Award. And for the
impact his work on subdivision surface has had on the movie industry, he was
awarded the 2005 Technical Achievement Award (Academy certificate) from
the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

** Prof. James L. Crowley
Directs the PRIMA Research Project group at the INRIA Rhone-Alpes  research
center in Montbonnot (near Grenoble), France. He holds the post of
Professor at the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (INPG),
where he teaches courses
in Computer Vision, Signal Processing, Pattern Recognition and Artificial
Intelligence at l'ENSIMAG (Ecole National Superieure d'Informatique et de
Mathematiques Appliquées). From 2003 through 2006, Professor Crowley has served
as director for the UMR GRAVIR laboratory (UMR 5527 CNRS, INPG, UJF, INRIA).
Professor Crowley has edited two books, five special issues of
journals, and authored
over 180 articles on computer vision and mobile robotics.

** Prof. Nelson D. A. Mascarenhas
Associate professor at Universidade Federal de São Carlos, Department of
Computing, where he teaches graduate courses in Digital Signal Processing,
Probability and Discrete Stochastic Processes and Special Topics in
Image Processing
and Recognition, among others. He has been an active researcher in Computer
Sciences and Electrical Engineering, and his main research interests are focused
on Digital Image Processing and Pattern Recognition.

**Prof. William K.Pratt
William Pratt is a pioneer in digital image processing. He is
responsible for the discovery
of the transform image coding concept, which is the basis for the JPEG
and MPEG image coding
standards. He is the inventor of a facsimile coding system and a means
of high-speed image convolution,
as well as the document editor of the Programmer's Imaging Kernel
System (PIKS) application program
interface standard. Pratt is the author of Laser Communications,
Digital Image Processing, PIKS
Foundation C Programmer's Guide and XIL: An Imaging Foundation Library.

Contributions should be in one of the following categories:

*  Full Papers: scheduled as oral presentations and published in the
Proceedings as two-column, 8-page papers, in English. Submission will be
electronic. IEEE CS Press will publish proceedings and selected papers
will be published in specialized journals.

*  Technical Posters: special session and published as two-column, 2-page
papers, in English.

*  Tutorials: about classical or timely topics, from elementary to
advanced, consisting of three to six hours of lectures with printed notes
(20-30 pages), in Portuguese or English.

*  Workshop of Theses and Dissertations: PhD and MSc students may submit
their ongoing work in English or Portuguese, to be evaluated for
presentation. We expect this to be an unique opportunity for graduate
students to receive important feedback on their work from the scientific
community.

*  Workshop of Undergraduate Work: undergraduate students are encouraged
to submit the results of their scientific works in English or Portuguese,
to be evaluated for presentation.

*  Video Festival: special session of computer graphics or digital video
processing techniques.
