*Postdoctoral Position in Computer Vision based Augmented Reality*
Department of Computer Science
National University of Ireland, Maynooth

The Computer Vision and Imaging Laboratory, at the Department of
Computer Science, NUI Maynooth is currently seeking one Postdoctoral
Research Fellow in Computer Vision based Augmented Reality. The
successful candidate will be required to (i) develop novel mobile 3D
vision algorithms for position and orientation estimation over a wide
area, and, (ii) develop approaches to augmenting live video of the
user's location with position and goal dependent information. A specific
goal will be the fusion inputs from auxiliary position and orientation
sensors, where available. The resulting algorithms will be required to
function as a part of a larger seamless navigation and location based
information system.

Duties will include conducting research, publishing in international
refereed journals, and assisting PhD students. The position is initially
being offered for a period of 3 years (with a 6 month probationary
period) with a salary of €46,043 p.a. in year one. Start date: On or
after June 1st, 2008. The successful candidate will:
     * have at PhD in a relevant area with emphasis on one or more of
the above research topics
     * have a demonstrated ability to perform, document and publish high
quality independent research
     * be personable and be able to work with a diverse group of
researchers.

This position is part of a Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) funded
Strategic Research Cluster in Advanced Geotechnologies (StratAG) that
involves a consortium of departments from NUI Maynooth, Trinity College
Dublin (TCD), the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) and University
College Dublin (UCD). StratAG is a collaborative research programme
aimed at developing new tools and technologies for the capture,
analysis, and visualisation of geospatial information and the delivery
of location based services using these technologies.

The National University of Ireland, Maynooth is located in Ireland's
only university town combining the historical legacy of its medieval
origins with a present day location in the technology heartland of
Dublin. The university, the second oldest in Ireland, traces it's
history back to 1795 and is a vibrant, rapidly expanding third-level
institution with more than 6,000 students, offering undergraduate and
postgraduate courses in the Arts, Science, Engineering, Philosophy and
Celtic Studies. The town offers excellent accommodation and social
facilities for students and visitors, with easy access to Dublin city
and airport.
