The above posts are available immediately for 3 years to carry out research as part of the Low light Advanced Microscopic Data Analysis (LAMDA) project which aims to develop the first intelligent image content management system for multidimensional live cell confocal microscope imagery.
LAMDA - Low light Advanced Microscopic Data Analysis
LAMDA is a £2M funded project aimed at developing the first intelligent image content management system for multidimensional live cell confocal microscope imagery. Objectives include:
- Develop novel algorithms for deconvolution, super-resolution, denoising, registration, co-location, and tracking.
- Develop an extensible framework to ease implementation of algorithms onto a GPU hardware platform.
- Develop metadata descriptors and associated data base organisation for management and retrieval.
LAMDA is a collaborative project between ECIT and Andor Technology involving a large multidisciplinary research and development team with personnel from both organisations.
ECIT, http://www.ecit.qub.ac.uk/, is a £38M million world-class centre with a unique focus on blue skies, strategic and industrial research projects. ECIT brings together, in one building, internationally renowned research groups from Queens University Belfast specialising in key areas of advanced digital and communications technology.
Andor Technology, http://www.andor.com/, is a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance CCD, ICCD, EMCCD for scientific imaging, microscopy and spectroscopy applications.
Other collaborative partners include biomedical research teams from the Institute Pasteur, Paris; and The European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Germany. These teams are involved in some of the most exciting research at the forefront of molecular and cellular biology aimed at developing cures for cancer and understanding of the
aging process.
LAMDA presents an exciting opportunity for two postdoctoral engineers to work in a world-leading institution with state-of-the-art facilities and with world-class collaborators from both industry and academia.
Anticipated interview date: Thursday 9 April 2009.
Engineer Salary scale: £27,537 - £32,126 per annum.
Senior Engineer Salary scale: £30,978 - £32,126 per annum.
