Graduate student/PhD in Computer Vision and Archaeology
The Graduate School "Human Development in Landscapes" which has been
established as part of the DFG Excellence-Initiative at the Christian
Albrechts-University in Kiel, Germany, invites applications for a
doctoral stipend for an outstanding young researcher with focus on
3D Archaeological Data Reconstruction and Visualisation from image data,
starting January 1st, 2010.
The successful applicant shall integrate the fields of computer vision,
geoinformatics and archaeological excavation techniques to perform
research on image-based 3D reconstruction of archaeological excavations
from images and photogrammetric data.
A grant of 1200 Euro/month from the Graduate School with additional
internal funding up to the post-doctoral level, supplied by the
Institute of Computer Science, will be provided for two years with the
option of extension for a further year. The eligible candidate must hold
an outstanding university degree in Computer Science, with strong
background in computer vision and 3D reconstruction, and at the same
time s/he must be able to cover the multidisciplinary scope of "Human
Development in Landscapes", contributing in this way to the general
thematic of "Humans and Environmental Change" . Basic knowledge of
archaeological field campaigns and archaeological excavations is highly
appreciated. The graduate programme is jointly offered by the faculties
of Humanities, Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Medicine, Agriculture
and Nutrition Sciences. Thus orientation of PhD projects should be
interdisciplinary, and supervision will be provided at an interfaculty
level. Candidates are invited to submit proposals for a PhD research
project that should address one of the following themes: "Society and
Reflection", "Social Space and Landscapes", "Mobility, Innovation and
