For evaluating template-based tracking algorithms, until now no common dataset existed that allowed an objective, quantitative comparison.
At ISMAR09, we proposed a ground truth dataset for template-based (i.e. planar) tracking algorithms using an optical camera mounted on a highly precise mechanical measurement arm. We recorded video sequences representing different types of camera movements varying the angle, distance and speed with respect to the target and varying the lighting conditions. The sequences were recorded for eight different planar targets featuring low, normal, high and repetitive texture.
At http://www.metaio.com/research you can find these video sequences available for download. There is also a detailed description and the ISMAR paper available describing how the dataset was created and how the evaluation is carried out.
We hope the dataset will support the development of new tracking algorithms and enable a fair comparison among different approaches.
Best Regards,
