Openings for a PhD position and postdoctoral fellow at the CVMI-Lab, Starting Sept. 1st, 2010
Copenhagen Inst. of Technology of Aalborg University in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Postdoctoral fellow and PhD scholarship:
The Computer Vision and Machine Intelligence lab is looking for a
talented researcher with a good background in computer and robot vision.
One focus at the CVMI is the interaction of humans with robots and
intelligent environments. Here, we are investigating different ways to
recognize human actions using appearance-based as well as model-based
vision approaches with single camera and multiple camera solutions for
human body tracking as well as stochastic grammars and graphical
models for high-level modeling.
In two ongoing EU projects, we want to equip a mobile robot platform with a novel KUKA light-weight arm, with a stereo camera system and with our 3D human
tracking and action recognition approach. The vision approaches will be running on a Nvidia Tesla card under CUDA. While the robot is equipped with a classical programming interface, the goal of our project is to program the robot simply by showing it what it should do, e.g., by using pointing gestures: "Take this object and put it there...".
The plan is to experiment with the robot in the industrial environment of a big Danish company.
Another goal is to let the robot identify, within the structured industrial environment, the effect the human action has, in order to find a formal description for it using STREP-like rules and to use them for planning complex tasks.
We are looking for a researcher who has experience in a subset of the areas
*computer and robot vision,
*tracking,
*object detection and recognition
and
*planning
Further requirements are important: C, C++, linux, hacker-qualities(!!)
A long-term commitment at the CVMI lab at the CIT is possible.
Salaries for the positions will be in accordance with the usual Danish
salaries which are among the highest in Europe.
