Postdoctoral Research Assistant
Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Engineering Science,
University of Oxford
Grade 7: £29,099 - £35,788 p.a.

We are seeking a full-time postdoctoral research assistant to join the
Biomedical Image Analysis Laboratory at the Institute of Biomedical
Engineering in Headington. The post is funded by Cancer Research UK, the
Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, and the Medical
Research Council, and is fixed-term up to 20 months.

The research project is within the Image Analysis programme of the
Oxford Cancer Imaging Centre, and is carried out in close interaction
with clinicians in the Oxford Cancer Centre (located on the same site as
the IBME). The remit of this post is to develop and evaluate fundamental
and translational image analysis methodology for nonlinear image
alignment to enable quantitative assessment of tumour growth or response
to therapy (and ultimately, prediction of response). You will be
responsible for performing analysis for a range of ongoing clinical
trials, and take a lead in translating existing and newly developed
methodology to clinical research practice.

You should possess (or be near completion of) a relevant PhD/DPhil in
medical image analysis, together with relevant experience to work in a
multi-disciplinary environment with both engineers and clinicians. You
should also possess a solid mathematical and computational background in
medical image analysis, including nonlinear image registration, and
strong programming skills. A solid publication background in relevant
international peer-reviewed conferences and journals is essential.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to julia.schnabel at eng.ox.ac.uk.

Only applications received before midday on 12 January 2012 can be
considered. You will be required to upload a covering letter, a brief
statement of research interests (describing how past experience and
future plans fit with the advertised position), CV and the details of
two referees as part of your online application.
