/AKEOPLUS is an engineering company specialized in improving products 
performances or industrial systems including their manufacturing 
processes. AKEOPLUS develops vision based controllers dedicated to robot 
planning and control in object grasping, pick and place, assembly, 
stacking and loading tasks. Currently, its most significant development 
has been focused on real time embedded 3D control electronic devices.

    Pose estimation of an object in a heap by using a 3D vision system

The position we offer concerns a thorough study in pose estimation of an 
object whose geometric model is known. Such a model could be either 
issued from a previous description, 3D scan or a CAD model. The object, 
whose pose has to be estimated, has a complex geometry (shape) and is 
usually only partially seen. This is due to the fact that objects are 
ranged in bulk.

The main purpose of this post-doctoral work is to extract, from a 
dedicated state of art, one or more techniques to ensure a robust 
estimation of 3D object pose. Indeed, in this specific context of object 
grasping robustness is more important than accuracy. This estimation is 
based on the acquisition of a cloud of 3D points directly measured on 
the pile of bulk objects. The main difficulties of this pose estimation 
are first the mapping of incomplete data (due to partial views) with a 
geometric model and second the unsupervised segmentation of seen objects.


      Candidate profile

The candidate should have skills in some of the following topics:

  * Image Processing and Computer Vision
  * 3D objects representation: cloud of points and CAD models
  * Visual servoing, robotics
  * C/Matlab/real-time programming (VHDL or/and DSP)

The candidate must be rigorous, creative and motivated by working in a 
startup in applied 3D vision for improving industrial solutions.This 
post-doctoral position should eventually lead to a permanent hiring.
