Postdoc in the area of image segmentation and object recognition (computer vision)
for 38 hours per week (reference ORCVTG2012)

The research will focus on the development of new algorithms for semantic search and services to support event, news and entertainment analysis on the Internet and mobile phones. Topics include image feature extraction, image segmentation, image matching, object/scene detection, scene understanding, and object tracking. The project is funded by a grant from the Dutch Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).

The position is within the Intelligent Systems Lab Amsterdam (ISLA) of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and will be supervised by prof. dr. Theo Gevers, see http://staff.science.uva.nl/~gevers/.

Requirements
Applicants must have a PhD degree in computer vision or a closely related area.
In addition, a successful candidate should have:
+ good knowledge of modern computer vision and machine learning methods;
+ good knowledge of image understanding and object recognition;
+ knowledge of modern image search algorithms and models;
+ strong math skills;
+ good oral and written communication skills;
+ strong programming skills in at least one of the following languages: Matlab, C, C++ or Java;

Appointment
The appointment will be full time (38 hours a week) for a period of one year. The salary is in accordance with the university regulations for academic personnel. The postdoc salary will range from € 2,861,-- up to a maximum of  € 3,755,- before tax per month (scale 10) based on a full-time appointment. The holiday allowance is 8% of the annual gross income and 8.3% end of the year bonus. The collective employment agreement of Dutch universities is applicable.

Duration of the position: one year. Starting date: ranging from 1 May – 1July, 2012.
